Technical advice to support planning provisions for living infrastructure and urban heat
Civille provided advice to ACT Government on planning controls for living infrastructure and urban heat in estates, commercial development and community facilities. Canberra’s Living Infrastructure Plan sets out high-level goals to improve living infrastructure and address urban heat in new development, including a commitment to update planning provisions.
Our project bridges the gap between the high-level goals in the Living Infrastructure Plan and a set of planning provisions to be drafted in the updated Territory Plan. We developed a set of objectives, planning principles and recommended measures applicable to a range of development types and contexts. This included recommended tree canopy and permeable surfaces benchmarks for different types of development.
The project also included a technical guidance document, which will support the future planning provisions.
