David Knights and Andrew McMillan developed the design for a stormwater harvesting scheme at Hurstville Golf Course that is now a major feature of the course.
The initial feasibility study stage identified a project option with attractive cost-benefit outcomes, and David assisted Council in preparing a successful government grant application. David and Andrew worked collaboratively throughout the design stage with Hurstville Council and the “Golf Course Task Force” to deliver a functional asset that is fully integrated into the golf course, and created an outstanding new hole.
The scheme was constructed in 2012, including a pump station, a 1,000 square metre bioretention system to treat stormflows, a wetland to treat constant trickle flows and a 2,500 kL open water storage dam. The design included a post-storage treatment system with filter and UV disinfection and supply to the existing irrigation system.
In addition to the design services David and Andrew also undertook tender assessment, weekly construction supervision with sign-off on key hold points, response to Requests For Information, Validation of Progress Claims and advice on the contractor’s variations to Hurstville Council during the 6 month construction period.
The system continues to provide the golf course with an alternative source of water as well as a hole that is appreciated by the members.
